Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy gains traction -

Killing off bacteria by using light on a thin film covering, sounds intriguing to say the least. The possibilities would be endless, from restorations to self-cleaning environmental surfaces, and on. A collaborative team from NIOM and the University of Oslo (UiO) is currently making strides in this direction.

Photoactive Zr-aromatic hybrid thin films made by molecular layer deposition -

In this work, we have developed a new MLD process for fabricating photoactive hybrid thin films based on Zr clusters and aromatic 25D-BDC organic linkers. The amorphous and uniform films display high absorption in the visible part of the spectrum. Moreover, we show that the type of the organic ligand and its functional groups can be used to tune the optical properties of Zr-organic hybrids, as shown by the Zr-2A-BDC and Zr-26-NDC systems in this work.

Sintering temperature accuracy and its effect on translucent yttria-stabilized zirconia: Flexural strength, crystal structure, tetragonality and light transmission -

The aim of this study was to investigate how lower and higher sintering temperature deviations in dental furnaces compared to the recommended firing protocols affected certain material properties of different translucency, chemical composition and recommended sintering temperatures, under the null hypothesis that there will not be any differences in properties investigated between the studied groups.
