Optical and mechanical properties of multi-layer zirconia -

Zirconia currently holds a significant portion of the market for fixed dental prostheses in Norway, and the types of dental zirconia available are increasing. Advertising slogans such as high translucent”, “super translucent”, and “ultra translucent”, among others, are commonly used to describe today’s dental zirconias. In addition, the term “multi-layer zirconia” is used to describe […]

Sintering temperature accuracy and its effect on translucent yttria-stabilized zirconia: Flexural strength, crystal structure, tetragonality and light transmission -

The aim of this study was to investigate how lower and higher sintering temperature deviations in dental furnaces compared to the recommended firing protocols affected certain material properties of different translucency, chemical composition and recommended sintering temperatures, under the null hypothesis that there will not be any differences in properties investigated between the studied groups.

Wear on and inside implants -

Wear on the different parts of a dental implant, can cause particle release as well as shorten the lifetime of the implant. A recently published study at NIOM in collaboration with the University of Gothenburg looked at particle release from dental implants in saliva during dynamic loading.

Wear particle release at the interface of dental implant components: Effects of different material combinations. An in vitro study -

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of combining implant and abutment materials on wear and particle release in a dynamical loading setup.

Improved bonding of zirconia crowns with resin-based cement -

Several pre-cementation procedures advocate enhancing adhesion between zirconia and resin-based cements. There is, however, limited documentation on how these pre-treatments affect the strength of high translucent zirconia.
