The international organization for standardization hosted a meeting from the 18. – 23. September in Annapolis, Maryland, USA where the goal was to further develop standards for biological and clinical evaluation of medical devices.

Delegates from 25 countries participated and were divided into 17 working groups based on technical research fields. This international group of experts worked to further develop methods and guidelines to ensure that materials and equipment for use in medicine and dentistry are safe and effective.

NIOM participated with a delegation of four scientists, as well as the institute’s director, Jon E. Dahl. The NIOM scientists convened two of the working groups, one on implantation as well as Toxokinetics, which was headed up by Dahl.
