John Tibballs, senior scientist at NIOM, acted as public opponent at the final doctoral examination for Mr.  Durgesh Bangalore Huchaiah. The examination took place, with much ceremony, at the University of Turku, Finland.

– It was an honor to contribute to our Nordic dental community, Dr. Tibballs said after the examination.

Mr. Durgesh teaches dentistry at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia. He took his degree in Finland as part of an exchange program with a thesis titled: “Behavior of resin composites at the interface between orthodontic bracket and tooth”.

Celebrated

– As a material scientist, my interest in the topic derives from the similarity between the behavior Mr. Durgesh investigated and experiments performed here at NIOM, Mr. Tibballs explains.

The examination took about 90 minutes. It highlighted a gulf between the approach of material scientists and clinicians to the testing materials. Afterwards, the examination committee could celebrate with Dr. Durgesh, PhD (Turku).

– I wish him a successful career, and trust the examination was a positive experience for him, Dr. Tibballs says.
