Adverse patient reactions during orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances -

Our aims in this study were to assess adverse patient reactions during orthodontic treatment with nickel-containing appliances and to investigate the need for and the use of nickel-free devices in orthodontic practices in Finland and Norway.

Bond strength between a silica glass-fiber-reinforced composite and artificial polymer teeth. -

The aim of the study was to investigate the bond strength of a silica glass-fiber-reinforced composite to polymer teeth compared with the bond strength of a proprietary heat-polymerized denture base polymer and also between a layer of the polymerized matrix polymer of the experimental base material and an additional layer of the same material.

Evaluation of bond strength of soft relining materials to denture base polymers -

A wide variety of newly formulated soft liners used in this study gave comparable or better bond strength results compared to Molloplast B.

Mechanical and physical properties of carbon-graphite fiber-reinforced polymers intended for implant suprastructures. -

Fiber treatment and the developed resin matrices resulted in good adhesion between carbon-graphite fibers and matrix. The properties observed indicate a potential for implant-retained prostheses.

Effect of thermal cycling on composites reinforced with two differently sized silica-glass fibers -

Effects of thermal cycling on the flexural properties of composites reinforced with two differently sized fibers.

Polymer based restorative materials – a study of important properties -

The composition, leachable products, and physical properties of toothcoloured restorative materials have been determined. The composition was often found to be more complex than described in the MSDS of the materials. The most frequently used monomers such as TEGDMA, Bis-GMA, Bis-EMA, UDMA, and 2-HEMA were detected, as well as several other monomers and different additives (initiators, activators, and stabilizers). The initiator camphoroquinone was found in all the investigated materials. B

Evaluation of eye protection filters for use with dental curing and bleaching lamps. -

Exposure to intense radiation sources in a dental clinic necessitates the use of eye protective filters to avoid blue-light photochemical retinal hazard.

Potential of dental adhesives to induce mucosal irritation evaluated by the HET-CAM method -

This study was undertaken to determine the potential of dental adhesive products to induce mucosal irritation based on their ability to damage the blood vessels of the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) in fertilized hen’s egg.

Cytotoxicity of new resin-, calcium hydroxide- and silicone-based root canal sealers on fibroblasts derived from human gingiva and L929 cell lines -

To assess ex vivo the cytotoxic effects of five new root canal sealers (RC Sealer, Epiphany, EndoREZ, GuttaFlow and Acroseal) and three existing products (AH Plus, RoekoSeal and Apexit) using primary human gingival fibroblasts (HGF) and a mouse fibroblast cell line, L929.

Apoptosis induced by the monomers HEMA and TEGDMA involves formation of ROS and differential activation of the MAP-kinases p38, JNK and ERK. -

Cytotoxic methacrylate monomers have been identified in aqueous extracts of freshly cured compomers. Some of these compounds, including HEMA and TEGDMA, induce apoptosis and necrosis in vitro.

Involvement of NADPH Oxidase and iNOS in Rodent Pulmonary Cytokine Responses to Urban Air and Mineral Particles -

We have investigated the potential of two complex mineral particles (feldspar and mylonite), quartz (Min-U-Sil), and suspended particulate matter (SRM-1648) (SPM) from urban air to induce inflammatory cytokine responses in primary rat alveolar type 2 cells and alveolar macrophages, and the involvement of cellular formation of free radicals in these responses.

Regulation of rat alveolar type 2 cell proliferation in vitro involves type II cAMP-dependent protein kinase -

To elucidate the role of cAMP and different cAMP-dependent protein kinases (PKA; A-kinase) in lung cell proliferation, we investigated rat alveolar type 2 cell proliferation in relation to activation or inhibition of PKA and PKA regulatory subunits (RIIα and RIα). Both the number of proliferating type 2 cells and the level of different regulatory subunits varied during 7 days of culture.
