Water sorption and solubility of dental composites and identification of monomers released in an aqueous environment. -

The resin composition influences the water sorption and solubility behaviour of composite resin materials. The HPLC analysis of eluted components revealed that triethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) was the main monomer released. Maximal monomer concentration in the eluate was observed after 7 days.

Dimensional change following setting of root canal sealer materials. -

The study was designed to evaluate a method proposed for measuring dimensional changes of endodontic sealers, and to assess the dimensional changes of 11 commercial sealers after prolonged storage in water.

Cytotoxic effects of visible light-cured dental materials -

Resin based materials cured by blue light are used for the majority of dental restorations in the Nordic countries. There is little knowledge of the potential biological effects of the photosensitisation induced by resin based dental materials at the cellular level.

Rat lung inflammatory responses after in vivo and in vitro exposure to various stone particles -

Rat lung alveolar macrophages and type 2 cells were exposed for 20 h in vitro to various stone particles with differing contents of metals and minerals (a type of mylonite, gabbro, feldspar, and quartz). The capability to induce the release of the inflammatory cytokines interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), and macrophage inflammatory protein-2 (MIP-2) was investigated.

Valg av fyllingsmaterialer i offentlig tannpleie -

En spørreundersøkelse i Vestfold har kartlagt offentlig ansatte tannlegers valg av fyllingsmateriale i gitte behandlingssituasjoner. Tannfargede materialer var de fleste tannlegers førstevalg for de fleste fyllingstyper. Kompomer dominerte i behandlingen av primære tenner og kompositt blant permanente tenner.

Stress relaxation in titanium-ceramic beams during veneering -

Spalling of a ceramic from the metallic substrate is related to stress at the metallo-ceramic interface of crowns. The purpose of this study is to (1) establish a method for recording the bending radius of metallo-ceramic strips during cooling, (2) calculate the stress in the metal adjacent to the metallo-ceramic interface based on the recorded bending and (3) compare this stress with that calculated from the mismatch between measurements of the coefficients of thermal expansion, alpha, of the ceramic and titan.

Cytotoxicity of dental glass ionomers evaluated using dimethylthiazol diphenyltetrazolium and neutral red tests. -

The purpose of this study was to assess the cytotoxicity of some commonly used glass ionomers. Three chemically cured glass ionomers (Fuji II, Lining cement, and Ketac Silver) and one light-cured (Fuji II LC) were tested. Extracts of mixed non-polymerized materials and polymerized specimens were prepared in accordance with ISO standard 10993-12. The polymerized specimens were cured and placed either directly in the medium (freshly cured), left for 24 h (aged), or aged plus ground before being placed in the medium.

Corrosion and biocompatibility testing of palladium alloy castings. -

The biocompatibility of palladium-copper alloys has been questioned in the literature. The intention of the present work was to study: (a) the release of ions in an immersion test from a copper-containing alloy, Option((R)) (79% Pd, 10% Cu, 9% Ga, 2% Au), compared with an alloy without Cu, IS85 (82% Pd, 6% Ga, 3.5% Sn, 3.5% In, 2.5% Ag, 2.5% Au); (b) the effect of oxide films produced by preoxidation on corrosion resistance; and (c) the possibility of biologically synergetic effects of ions released.
